For the Goal 15 “Life on Land”, JAXA's Earth observation satellites are contributing to forest management. Advanced Land Observing Satellite-2 (ALOS-2) is capable of observing forests covered with clouds even at night. JAXA, in cooperation with JICA, has developed JJ-FAST: JICA-JAXA Forest Early Warning System in the Tropics. This system uses ALOS-2 data to monitor logging and changing status of tropical forests, and is currently used in 77 countries around the world.
