-It’s the difficult second Vodcast, Episode 2 of ‘Middle Aged Tread’.
And it finds our correspondents Matt Prior and James Disdale taking to a Honda Insight, which turns 25 years old this year. Can you believe it? This pair can’t, quite, because with its space-aged tear-drop looks, fared in rear wheels and a narrower track at the back than the front, the Insight still feels remarkably modern. Apart from some of the interior, of course.
It has a clever drivetrain, too, with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine backed by an electric motor, with a small battery sited behind the occupants, so it finds our presenters riffing on how far you can get on a thimble of fuel, and how, had all cars been like this, we might have used quite a lot less fuel than we have over the past quarter of a century. There’s a bit more nonsense besides but it is ultimately a car show. And we’ll be back for Episode 3 in a fortnight’s time.
