The great Otorii of the Itsukushima Shrine is well-known as the symbol of Miyajima. It is located approximately 200m away in offshore precincts. With a height of 17m and a hefty weight of about 60 tons, the great Otorii is not buried into the sea, but simply stands on its weight after being placed on the seabed.
