JAXA offered a variety of new themes again in Japan Fiscal Year 2013, such as the full scale use of Digital/Analogue-Hybrid Wind Tunnel (DAHWIN) in April, the launch of the Spectroscopic Planet Observatory for Recognition of Interaction of Atmosphere "HISAKI" by the first Epsilon Launch Vehicle in September, Astronaut Koichi Wakata's long-stay mission at the ISS from November, and the launch of the GPM core observatory with the Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR) by the H-IIA Launch Vehicle No. 23 in February 2014.
