Japan's playful and avant-garde take on Victorian-era clothing, known as Lolita, has created a vibrant fashion subculture that started on the streets of Harajuku and has spread overseas.
Recently, Japan Society hosted a lecture featuring the former Kawaii Ambassador Misako Aoki, regarding the origins, culture and development of Lolita. Beforehand, she took the time to sit down with us and answer some questions on this quickly spreading Japanese subculture.
