Clean House, Clear Mind: A Buddhist Monk's Wisdom
Wednesday, March 27, 6:30 PM
Clean your space, and your mind will follow. This is the wisdom Buddhist monk Shoukei Matsumoto seeks to impart in his book, A Monk's Guide to a Clean House and Mind. Sweeping, polishing and tidying may seem like drudgery, but these everyday routines are considered spiritual practices in Buddhism, a reflection of our respect for and interdependence with the world around us. At this talk, Matsumoto explains how we can take cleaning from a chore to a contemplative practice, leading us down the path to inner peace.
Shoukei Matsumoto is a Buddhist Monk at Komyoji Temple. Born in 1979 in Japan, he graduated with a B.A. degree in Literature from the University of Tokyo. Right after graduation, he joined Komyoji temple and initiated new projects such as the Temple Café Project. In 2008, the association was awarded "Shoriki Matsutaro Prize" from a foundation for education. He completed his MBA from the Indian School of Business as an Ambassadorial Scholar of the Rotary Foundation in 2011. After his MBA, he started a project of “Mirai no Jushoku-Juku” or temple management school for Buddhist priests and monks. In 2013, he was nominated as a member of the Young Global Leaders 2013 from the World Economic Forum in Davos. He has published five titles and A Monk's Guide to a Clean House and Mind was translated into over fifteen languages. Twitter: @shoukeim
