Last time, we visited Odawara City in Kanagawa Prefecture, to step into the world of Japanese Ninja.
First, at Odawara Castle, we learned that Ninjas were not actually violent assassins, but clever spies enlisted to spy on clans during the Sengoku period, when Japan was broken up into small territories at war with each other. I also discovered that Ninjas didn't run around wearing ninja costumes--they actually dressed up as inconspicuous peddlers, beggars, entertainers, farmers, and merchants.
Okay, so if ninjas didn’t dress in all black, running around throwing stars and assassinating their enemies, what DID they do? I headed to Nagano to find some answers.
