This is the new Volkswagen Golf, the facelifted Mk8 or, colloquially, the Mk8.5. And it sets out to right a few wrongs with the eighth-generation Golf that went on sale in 2020, which was a car emblematic of VW's recent struggles, having glitchy and confusing multimedia, a cheaper-feeling cabin that we'd like and some infernal touch-sensitive steering wheel buttons.
All of those facets and more have been looked at with the latest version of the Golf, which is on sale now. This variant is an e-TSI 150 R-Line, which has a UK retail price of £31,875 before options.
It has a hybridised 1.5-litre engine making 148bhp (150PS) and 184lb ft, a 0-62mph time of 8.4sec, a top speed of 139mph and returns 52.6mpg and emits 122g/km of CO2.
