Energy & Geopolitics: Is Japan Ready to Deal with the Uncertainties?
Tuesday, December 10, 6–8:30 PM
The world faces an enormous challenge in meeting the global energy requirement that is expected to grow 50 percent by 2050. As the energy transition to cleaner fuels progresses, the energy equation is becoming ever more complex with the U.S. ramping up to become an energy superpower, renewables maturing to become a competitive source of power, and the trade war with China risking deceleration of global growth. Furthermore, the September 2019 Saudi oil facility attacks revealed the vulnerabilities of energy markets, placing geopolitics front and center. Is Japan ready to face these uncertainties? How will the geopolitical situation in the Middle East play out? What role will climate regulation have on energy markets? How will the ongoing trade war with China impact energy markets? In this program, energy experts discuss a wide range of topics surrounding the geopolitics of energy and potential implications for Japan.
Speakers:
Go Katayama, Senior Consultant, Poten & Partners, Inc.
Katherine Spector, Research Scholar, Center on Global Energy Policy, Columbia University
Michael Tran, Managing Director, Global Energy Strategy, RBC Capital Markets
Moderator:
